McCook, NE (must relocate or live within daily driving distance)
Are you the type of person who actually enjoys a good Gantt chart, loves building cool industrial projects, and hates dropped balls? If you like seeing big grain systems go from paper to reality, keep reading.
Who we are
We’re Chipperfield Ag, a commercial construction company that designs, builds, and repairs grain elevators and material-handling systems for ag businesses across Nebraska and Kansas. Projects range from $100K bin installs to $1.2M+ grain system builds, and we run about 30 projects a year.
We’re a growing, family-owned company that believes in respect, learning every day, walking with purpose, and consistently exceeding expectations.
Relocation (non‑negotiable)
This role requires you to relocate to McCook, Nebraska, or a nearby commutable town.
No long-term remote-only setups; you must be close enough for regular site visits across NE & KS and in-person time with the team.
What you’ll be doing
You’re the “owner” of each project once it leaves sales. You’ll take it from plan to punch list, making sure we hit schedule, budget, and quality targets.
You will:
Build project budgets, scopes, material lists, and schedules for $100K–$2M projects.
Keep projects on time and on budget, leading weekly project review meetings.
Be the main point of contact for customers from kickoff through final training and closeout.
Coordinate subcontractors, internal crews, engineers, suppliers, and logistics.
Create complete project packets (labor plan, equipment, material deliveries, drawings, work instructions).
Stay ahead of problems: weather, delays, supply chain hiccups, schedule conflicts.
Handle change orders, percent-complete billing, and documentation (currently in Sage 100; we’re open to new PM software).
Who will crush it in this job
We’re looking for someone who sees project management as both an art and a science and actually gets excited about building things.
Must have:
Commercial construction PM experience (not residential).
Experience managing $100K–$2M projects with a track record of on-time, on-budget delivery.
Full PM lifecycle ownership: budgets, scheduling, change orders, billing, contracts, closeout.
Mechanical/industrial systems background (material handling, plant work, industrial construction; grain is a plus).
Excellent communication skills with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Strong organization and follow-through—you don’t let details slip.
Nice to have:
Grain systems or related industry experience (cement, fertilizer, food processing, biomass, renewables, etc.).
Existing relationships with vendors/subs (steel, pumps, hydraulics, etc.).
Experience with Procore or other PM software.
Ability to read prints/do takeoffs and spot risks before they hit the field.
Culture-wise, you’re authentic, confident but not cocky, efficient but not reckless, direct but not abrasive. You keep your word, speak plainly, stay calm under pressure, and genuinely care about doing the job right.
Why this is a cool opportunity
You’re not just “running jobs” – you’re helping build and professionalize the project management function as the company grows.
You’ll work directly with leadership and a 30-person team and have a real voice in how we do things.
The company is investing in tech (3D modeling, BIM) and growth, including M&A opportunities.
